Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find out about your client policies and processes?

Check out this info sheet which spells out cancellation and payment policies, how new clients get onboarded and other important information on how I work. If you have questions, email me, I love to help.

Do you have any pets of your own?

No, currently I do not have pets of my own and can give the entirety of my animal love to your beloved furry family member.

What are your drop-off and pick-up times?

I am flexible. Check the info sheet for more details.

Does my pet get exercise?

I have a fenced yard and play with my furry guests in the yard and in the house. I provide at least one daily walk to my boarding clients and more walks can be booked separately. Exclusive care guests will get the exercise they need to be healthy and happy.  I sometimes take my doggie guests on excursions if they like to ride in the car, but never let them off leash except for when they are in my fenced yard, at the dog park or in any other safely fenced area, unless you give me permission and I know them well.

Where will my dog sleep?

They can sleep wherever they want, including in the bed with me, unless you don’t want me to. They are allowed anywhere in the house. No kennels, unless your precious pet feels safer that way.

How many dogs do you have at the same time?

To comply with regulations of the City of Port Townsend, I don’t take more than 5 dogs at the same time.

How do you discipline your pet clients?

I only use positive reinforcement, with treats, play, praise and use the clicker when a dog responds to it. I make sure dogs get along before I book dogs from different families and separate them physically if needed. I believe in discipline and affection, but I am not a dog trainer. More about my philosophy and what I believe in here.

Are you licensed and insured? What are your terms and conditions?

I have a business liability insurance and a business license. I am bonded and require all my clients to  agree to my Terms & Conditions available on the client portal. I am also certified as a professional pet sitter and have other credentials that demonstrate that I take this seriously.

Do you have references?

Yes, check out my testimonials page. I can also provide additional references.

Do you accept new clients?

Yes! Contact me to schedule a complimentary 30 minute meet and greet to see if we are a good fit for each other.

What are your cancellation and payment policies?

I apply a holiday surcharge of 20% for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Labor Day, Fourth of July, Memorial Day, New Years. For boarding clients, a 50% deposit is required to confirm the booking. Payment is accepted via credit card, debit card, ACH/bank account, check and cash. Except for cash and check, I apply a 3% payment processing fee to all bookings.  Full payment needs to be made no later than pick up. For boarding, cancellation is free up to 30 days before the booking. After that your deposit will not be returned. If you pick up your pet earlier than scheduled, I might not be able to return your fee, as I reserved the day for your pet.

What should I bring?

Bring a safe and well fitted harness or collar, leash, medication if any, treats, food, bed, toys and anything else your doggie might enjoy during their stay at Happy Paws Inn & Resort. As a fear-free certified boarding professional, I discourage my clients from using any averse training collars, such as chain, prong or electric collars.

What if I have a dog that needs a bit more time to get to know you?

Of course I am happy to work with you and your doggie so we are all comfortable with each other. I often start with a 2-hour stay, half day, full-day, whatever you need. Pricing can be adjusted based on length of time.

When should I contact you to book our stay?

As early as possible! I usually book out 2 months ahead.

Where are you located?

I am in Port Townsend in the Upper Kah Tai Creek neighborhood. I share my address with you before our meet and greet.

Do you leave my dog alone a lot?

No, but your dog needs to be ok with being left alone for up to 4 hours.
